The Tempest

The tempest surrounds me
The rain is rising with the wind
I watch from my shelter as it lifts a tree
It carries it away in a whirling frenzy
Just as I think it's coming to carry me away
Into unknown regions
I see a golden sliver
The sun is coming out again
Soon it is calm and peaceful
Giving me time to rebuild
To prepare for the next time.

Man

They crawled on their knees 'til they found the fire
They built tools, then weapons as they strove ever higher
They played with magic but they wanted more
So the donned shiny armor and went off to war
They fought long and hard but hadn't found themselves yet
So they searched 'til they found those called philosopher and poet
Over the deserts and oceans they trod
Until one day they thought they'd found God
Strong in their faith they went back to war
When they died and they lost they said
'God loves us no more'
They built buildings of concrete and steel
They danced and they sang
They forgot what was real
They caused a storm of fiery rain
And they found themselves down on their knees again
